Home for Homecoming

There’s no place like home, and that’s where the Hometown Showcase spent last Friday. Our team rolled into Wilmington High School for an eventful day with students, teachers, and fans.

WHS Homecoming Week

Wilmington High School spent the week celebrating homecoming, and Friday was the last day before the school dance on Saturday, so the students were already excited. Juniors and seniors were given a presentation on the impact transportation and logistics has on everyday life. Transportation is a common word, but the term logistics is more uncommon. Logistics is the coordination behind the scenes that make certain things like trucking possible. Someone has to coordinate a driver’s route and make sure the packages in their truck coincide with their route. That’s logistics. Every day, school bus drivers have a certain route and kids to pick up. That’s made possible by logistics. Every day, people are affected by logistics.

After the presentation, students then toured our interactive hauler, where logistics was on full display. Students also learned facts about R+L Carriers and the various career opportunities the industry offers. They were also able to win prizes outside the hauler by answering questions about the company.

Fans, Fun and Football

After the students were finished touring the Hometown Showcase and after the school pep rally, it was time to play some football! The Hometown Showcase set up shop near the entrance of the stadium, so fans couldn’t miss us. Our Corn Hole Challenge was a big hit! Several people won an official Hometown Showcase stadium seat and even more won Hometown Showcase blankets and t-shirts.

Before the game, we presented Ely with the Hometown Showcase Student Achievement Award for his excellence in the classroom and community. After an outstanding halftime performance from The Pride of Wilmington Marching Band, we presented Wilmington High School administration with a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to a graduating senior at the end of the year.
