The R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase supports academics at all grade levels while teaching students about the numerous possibilities of a career in logistics. During the first week of April, the logistics industry was on full display at two Ohio high schools and an Ohio pre-school.
Greeneview High School Visit
Located in Jamestown, Ohio, the students of Greeneview High School were treated to a full day of logistics fun! The day started off in two phases. Students saw a presentation on the impact of logistics on daily life. After the presentation, students toured our interactive hauler to experience logistics hands on. We also stayed around for the school track meet so fans could experience the R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase and so we could give away a few awards to special students.
Hometown Showcase Achievement Award and Scholarship
During the initial contact period with a school, the R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase gives the administration the criteria for our $1,000 scholarship. Greeneview principal Brian Masser and the administration chose Sabrina Saunders for the scholarship because of her outstanding work inside and outside the school.
The Hometown Achievement Award showcases a student who demonstrates sportsmanship, academic excellence, exceptional character, and a commitment to his or her community. Madison Kilbarger, the award recipient, is the Greeneview High School National Honor Society president, FFA president, and student council secretary. In 2015, Madison started volunteering at the Jamestown Community meal and food pantry and has continued volunteering each month ever since. Madison also serves the community by helping with the Jamestown Lions Club Bean Festival each year and volunteers through the National Honor Society, with service activities such as Ram Reads, Blessings in a Bag, blood drives, Jamestown bike path cleanup, the Dayton Gospel Mission, and organizing a group of students to help paint the parking lot at the high school this year.
Congratulations to Sabrina and Madison!
Lebanon High School Visit
Our first trip to Lebanon High School was in December of last year and our friends at the school, located 30 miles north of Cincinnati, Ohio and 30 miles south of Dayton, welcomed us back for their Spring Career Fair. Students were able to talk with Hometown Showcase representatives about logistic career options, which include:
During our last visit to the school, we spoke to Libby Turpin, Career and College Readiness teacher at the school. Ms. Turpin prepares students for college by helping them select a career path. Logistics is one of the most diverse career paths a student can consider. Watch our Facebook Live video with Libby here.
Sonshine Christian Pre-School Visit
You are never too young to learn about transportation and logistics. Actually, the younger you are the more fun you are prone to have. That was the case at Transportation Day, an annual event at the Sonshine Christian Pre-School. This event is a collaboration of different modes of transportation from the entire Clinton County area, our own hometown. Students, filled with excitement, surrounded the Hometown Showcase hauler throughout the day. Although the students at Sonshine Preschool are a few years away from applying for career opportunities with R+L Carriers, our team saw a glimpse of future truck drivers, software developers, customer service representatives and project managers. All of the kids had a blast and we look forward to spreading logistics careers with people of all ages!
