We have 4 tips to help you decide what kind of company work environment will make you happy.

Your graduation day is around the corner and you’re about to head into the work force. Full Time. You’re going to be spending between 40-50 hours a week at work, meaning you’ll be spending more time with co-workers than most family members or college friends soon. Once you take a deep breath and let that sink in, you’ll realize a company’s culture has a lot to do with how happy you’ll be during those hours. Here’s 4 tips to help you decide what kind of company work environment will make you happy.

Check the Company’s Web Site

Part of your job interview research includes checking out the company’s web site. When you’re doing your research, look for dedicated pages that explain what the company does, explains who they are and their values and company culture. Many company web sites have these pages buried in and around the job employment or job openings web pages. Do some digging.

Check the Company Social Media Presence

You’ll also want to scan a company’s social media accounts. These are great sites to investigate what the company is really doing behind the scenes and what they share with the public. Companies that post get- togethers with employees participating in basketball free-throw tournaments, crazy hat and crazy sock day and other fun rituals might make you realize this is a company that’s able to have a little fun while they work. How open are they to dialogue on the pages too? Are they responding to comments and questions? This will tell you a lot about the company’s philosophy and customer service culture.

Ask Questions During Your Interview

We know you’re prepared for your interview with questions about the company that will impress prospective employers. But dig a little deeper to learn about their culture. Here are some questions to try and find out more:

If you’re being interviewed by several different people, make sure you ask these questions and other questions to as many employees as possible so you can get a better feel for the company’s culture.

Work Enviroment

R+L Carriers is looking for talented software developers among other positions.

You’ll also want to find out as much as possible about the company’s work assignments during your interview. Find out what kind of projects the company is working on to gauge if you’ll be a good fit. Get examples of projects and assess them so you’re comfortable that you can make an impact with the work assignments handed to you.

Movin’ On Up

Not only do you want to find out more about the culture of the company for new hires, but you want to know if you have a future there too. Whether it’s a family-owned or privately owned company, you want to make sure there’s room for you to grow, by exploring options for both technical advancement and achieving leadership roles. Employers are looking for employees that want to grow technically and become more proficient.

Students Receive Hometown Scholarship Award

Published: | Author: HometownAuthor

Investing in the future of high school students across America is a primary component of the R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase. One way we support our mission is by providing financial scholarships to high school students. We believe continuing education and training is a crucial part in preparing our youth for the future.

In December 2015, The Hometown Showcase was an official sponsor of the OHSAA Football Championships. Recently we visited three championship Ohio high schools from that event, awarding each winning school a $1,000 Hometown Scholarship Award. We visited those schools to award the scholarships to their deserving recipients.

Fort Recovery High School: Ross Homan

On December 4th Fort Recovery High School defeated Mogadore, 33-14, to win the 2015 OHSAA Division VII State Championship. Senior Ross Homan was a member of the winning team and enjoyed time in The Hometown Showcase Championship Zone while celebrating his team’s victory. On April 26, the Hometown Showcase met back up with Fort Recovery High School during a varsity baseball game. Ross, also on the baseball team, was present to receive his $1,000 Hometown Scholarship Award. His coaches describe him as a proven leader and teammate on two state caliber teams. They pointed out that Ross is a respected representative of both the school and community.

Cincinnati La Salle High School: Nolan Keller

After defeating Massillon Perry in the 2015 Division II OHSAA Football Championship, Cincinnati La Salle celebrated their victory and were awarded with a $1,000 Hometown Scholarship Award for one lucky student-athlete. On April 28, the Hometown Showcase rolled into the Queen City for the La Salle Track Invitational to meet students, athletes and Nolan Keller. Nolan Keller was the La Salle High School recipient of The Hometown Showcase scholarship award. According to Nolan’s coaches, he is a true leader who leads by his actions.

Archbishop Hoban High School: Jacob Kepler

The Archbishop Hoban Knights defeated Central Catholic in the 2015 OHSAA Division III football finals on December 3rd.  On April 30, the Hometown Showcase team made a visit to Archbishop Hoban’s high school track invitational. Among those in attendance were Senior Jacob Kepler, a member of Archbishop Hoban’s state championship football team. During our visit we presented Kepler with a Hometown Scholarship Award. Kepler’s teachers describe him as confident, polite and dedicated to academic and athletic excellence.

At each of the events all students and athletes were able to tour the Hometown Showcase hauler and our team was on hand to educate them about career opportunities in logistics and commercial transportation. When most students think of commercial transportation companies like R+L Carriers, they usually think of truck driving. In all actuality, there are numerous career opportunities available within the logistics field, ranging from truck driving and mechanics to technology and sales.
