The R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase visited Wilmington College and Miami Trace High School on September 14 and September 16. Both events gave students an opportunity to learn about the many career opportunities in the logistics industry.

Wilmington College Career Fair

College students around the country are looking for part-time work during school and for career opportunities after graduation. R+L Carriers offer both and we were on hand to talk to Wilmington College students about how the logistics industry can fit their needs. Some of the part-time positions include Freight Handlers and Operations Clerk, perfect for a college student who needs flexibility in their schedule.

Think back to when you were in high school, or maybe you are in high school right now. Deciding on a career path may have or may be challenging. The good thing about transportation and logistics is a career path can include a lot more than just driving a truck.

On Friday, Sept.9, 2016 The R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase rolled into East Clinton High School in Sabina, Ohio to talk to middle school and high school students about the career opportunities in logistics. We also stayed around for the high school football game!

Classroom Presentations

R+L representatives started the day bright and early with the East Clinton High students. Our presentation focused on defining logistics, transportation and supply chain. We then talked to the students about how their life would be different without all three. Some students were surprised that if not for logistics and transportation, some of the clothes and accessories they love would not be able to make it to them for purchase.

We also wanted to share some information about R+L Carriers. In this particular case, we were a logistics company right in their backyard offering a variety of career opportunities. Students also toured our interactive Hometown Showcase hauler throughout the school day too.

Logistics Career Opportunities

When someone hears the term logistics and transportation, the first thing they usually think about is trucking. Make no mistake about it; dedicated truckers play a tremendous role inside the logistics industry. There is, however, a vast array of other career opportunities available within logistics and transportation too.

Careers range from dock workers, freight handlers and mechanics to sales, communications and technology. All of these careers work in tandem to produce a well oiled transportation machine. There are numerous career paths you can take to achieve a successful career in logistics.

The team took on Greeneview and our hauler was there to provide a family friendly tailgating atmosphere. Students, parents, faculty and fans toured our hauler to learn more about logistics and R+L Carriers. Of course, we setup games like our Cornhole Challenge, where fans could win a t-shirt, blanket or stadium seat.  The concession stand even named a burger after us; The R+L Hometown Double Cheeseburger with bacon, slaw and BBQ sauce. Sound delicious? Well, it was!
