Inspired by recent school visits within our hometown of Wilmington, Ohio, we were reminded of our key foundation. R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase is committed to educating and providing opportunities within the transportation and logistics industry to students of all ages, nationwide.
East End Elementary
Pre-K students at East End Elementary were learning about transportation and roads in class, so when the teachers called us to ask if we would give their students an interactive experience of transportation on the road, we said: “let’s do it!” The teachers told us the students were bursting with excitement before we arrived; the classes erupted with joy when they saw the first truck (a milk truck), through the classroom window. Finally, we arrived and their expressions were priceless! Of course, each of the students wanted to be first to ride the Bose Ride simulator. They had a blast imagining what it is like to be on the road as a truck driver. Prepared with questions, the students were curious about the types of food that drivers eat, where they sleep, and if they can bring their favorite pets on the road.

East End students enjoyed experiencing life on the road as a truck driver with our Bose Ride simulator.
Educating students in the East End Pre-K classes was fun for our team and we appreciate the students for their enthusiasm for transportation.
Laurel Oaks Career Campus
This was our first time visiting Laurel Oaks, which is a satellite campus of Great Oaks. The first thing that caught our eye was their vision statement which we immediately connected with. “Providing innovative career training to empower individuals and communities”. The transportation and logistics industry is full of innovative career opportunities and R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase is constantly striving to empower individuals and communities across America through education initiatives.
“I just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to visit our campus. Our students were excited about the opportunity to experience the activities in the truck. I hope we can work together in the future to benefit R&L and the students at Laurel Oaks.”
– Kevin E. Abt, Dean of Instruction Laurel Oaks Career Campus
Our recruiting team spent time with the Mechanics and Technology division and everyone enjoyed a classroom presentation regarding career opportunities that exist within the logistics industry. Those studying to be diesel mechanics were able to speak with R+L Carriers Mechanics, who were also in attendance, and students studying technology explored varies career paths in logistics, including:
- .Net Developer
- .Net Software Engineer
- Business Analyst
- Communications Technician
- Graphics and Web Design

Laurel Oaks students toured our hauler to learn more about the logistics industry and heard a presentation about logistics career opportunities.

While one group of students at East End has just started their education journey to find a career path and another group of students at Laurel Oaks is getting ready to enter the workforce, educating students of all ages is important to the mission of the R+L Carriers Hometown Showcase. It’s never too early, or too late to be excited about opportunities in the logistics industry. If you are interested in our interactive hauler visiting your school or community, contact us today!
